Padilla's goring

Padilla's goring

This painting captures the brutal moment when bullfighter Juan José Padilla suffered a life-changing goring. It happened on October 7, 2011, in Zaragoza, when a bull from Ana Romero struck him in the face, causing the loss of his left eye and multiple fractures. Far from retiring, Padilla returned to the ring just months later, becoming a symbol of courage and resilience. The image, raw and expressive, conveys not only the physical impact of the moment but also the birth of a legend — a matador who came back to become myth.
